Losing my recording contract followed by losing my house was very traumatic period and yes I did drink more than I do now, but I wasn’t as bad as the song suggests. I had fun going to the extreme on this song and it has a Robert Palmer/Caribbean feel to it. Like the song Good Friends it is a drinking song that belongs in a bar among friends.

Verse 1
I got no money, I’ve got no where to go.
I’ve only got this guitar and this set of clothes.
It isn’t funny when you’re losing your edge,
there’s only the bottle and the friends you got left.

Chorus
But oh my don’t get upset,
oh my you’re not dead yet!

Verse 2
I’ve got the shakes, I’ve got them real bad.
I keep crying am I going mad?
Give me a drink and I’ll be fine.
Guess I’m a drunk, I wish I would die.

Chorus
But oh my don’t get upset,
oh my you’re not dead yet!

Verse 2
I went up and I came crashing down.
I’m broken on the bottom, I wish I’d broke my neck.
Friends want to help, that’s all good and fine,
but they can’t help this future of mine

Chorus
But oh my don’t get upset,
oh my you’re not dead yet!
